Travel tips

for Cartagena

Let´s get you wedding-ready!

We’re so excited to celebrate with you in Cartagena!
To make your trip as smooth (and fun) as possible,
here are some handy travel tips:

GETTING THERE

It‘s just 15 minutes from the

GETTING AROUND

Walk it out: The Walled City and Getsemaní are super walkable, so comfy shoes are a must.

Taxis & Uber: Taxis don’t use meters—always agree on a price first.
Uber is available but can be hit or miss.

Hotel Transportation: If you want to ride in style (or just avoid taxi negotiations), many hotels offer transportation to and from the airport—check in with your hotel ahead of time.

CURRENCY

The currency is Colombian Pesos (COP).
Bring some cash for small vendors, but credit cards
work in most places.

$1 USD = 3.900 – 4.200 COP
10.000 COP = 2.50 USD
(a tip for the bellhop, a coffee & an arepa)
20.000 COP = 5.00 USD
(a taxi ride)
50.000 COP = 12 USD
(a casual meal)
100.000 COP = 25 USD
(a dinner for two or a souvenir)

Heads up! Let your bank know you’re traveling so they
don’t freak out when you buy a million arepas.

A Little Spanish Goes a Long Way

Most people speak Spanish, and while some know English, a few key phrases will make you a rockstar:
Hola, ¿cómo estás? – Hi, how are you?
¿Cuánto cuesta? – How much does this cost?
La cuenta, por favor. – The check, please.
¿Dónde está el baño? – Where is the bathroom?
No hablo mucho español. – I don´t speak much spanish
¿Me puede ayudar? – Can you help me?
No, gracias – No, thank you
Si, por favor – Yes, please

STAY SAFE & STREET-SMART

Cartagena is a lively and friendly city, but like any tourist spot, keep an eye on your stuff!

Avoid flashing valuables (save that flex for the dance floor)

Be mindful of pickpockets in crowded areas.

There are a lot of vendors and they will aproach you,
if you are not interested don’t engage.

PACK LIKE A PRO

Cartagena is HOT & HUMID (think 80º – 90º),
so pack light and breazy clothes!
Essentials include: Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat,
bug spray (mosquitoes love tourists) and
comfortable shoes.

EAT LIKE A LOCAL
(Trust us, you’ll thank us later)

Arepas de huevo – A crispy, egg filled bite of heaven.
Limonada de coco – The most refreshing coconut limeade ever!
Ceviche – Fresh, citrus, marinated seafood perfection.
Patacones– Fried green plantains that go with everything.
